Online SupportLine

The 1in6 Online SupportLine is a free, confidential, secure service that provides live help over the 1in6 website.

If you are in immediate danger, of seriously harming yourself or being harmed by someone else, we recommend calling 911 or going to the nearest hospital emergency room. If you are struggling with thoughts of suicide, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline can help at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

Who should use the Online SupportLine?

Men who may have had unwanted or abusive sexual experience in childhood, family members, friends and partners of men who may have had those experiences.

What services does the Online SupportLine provide?

  • Crisis intervention and support
  • Answers to your questions about recovering from childhood sexual abuse

How does it work?

It works just like instant messaging. You'll go into a private session with a trained volunteer and communicate, live, by typing messages back and forth. The service is completely anonymous, and you do not have to give your name or any personal information.

Who provides the help?

Online Hotline services are provided through a collaboration between 1in6, RAINN and local centers across the US, with the help of hundreds of trained volunteers. All trained volunteers have successfully completed state-mandated training as well as additional training developed by 1in6 about issues related to men who experienced sexual abuse in childhood. All volunteers receive ongoing supervision from their local center and Online SupportLine supervisors monitor sessions for quality control.

Does the Online SupportLine provide ongoing help?

The Online Hotline provides immediate crisis help and information about recovery and reporting options. If you need ongoing help, your trained volunteer will work to help you identify and connect with local resources, which may provide individual and group support sessions and other services. You can always reach a local center directly by calling the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1.800.656.HOPE.

As a part of this partnership, RAINN provides for 1in6 an online hotline, which is reached through https://ohl.rainn.org/1in6/ (the "Online SupportLine").
